Have had a bit over a year to experience using this new Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker, and have found that it exceeded every one of my high expectations. Those expectations were based on prior ownership of many of this company's products, including the Victorinox Swiss Army Midnite Minichamp, the Swiss Army Champion Plus, the Swiss Army Ranger and more. Each of these products had served me well, and some of them have seen service for years.

First Impressions:

Didn't know what to expect when I first heard about Victorinox making changes to the basic design of the classic Swiss Army Knife that we've all known for years, but based on the quality that had been found in their earlier products, it was worth a shot to try out this model. There were two things that stood out immediately: the new locking serrated blade and the 4-3/8 inch long black handle. Immediately found out that the ergonomic handle, larger than most genuine Swiss Army knives, fit my hand perfectly... it was love at first grip. Further found that the new serrated blade was amazingly good, and that the locking feature was just what many of us had wondered about and requested for years. Just shows that this is a company that listens to the desires of its customers and then responds.

The engineers at Victorinox have come up with a winner with the One Hand Trekker, and it's proof that someone wasn't asleep at the wheel when it came to incorporating real functionality with contemporary ergonomic design.

* Good value for the money when considering a multipurpose tool.
* Excellent fit and finish, as one would expect from Victorinox.
* Useful assortment of practical tools in a small package.

* No included belt sheath. It's an optional extra.

Note: As an added bonus, this package comes with a free Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife. This little gem is also a keeper or can be the perfect gift item for someone who appreciates good workmanship. There are other good reviews on the Classic, so I'll just stick with the One-Hand Trekker here.

In Summary:

When it comes to day by day functionality, the Victorinox One-Hand Trekker may be the most useful Swiss Army knife yet. The design is excellent, and the choice of tools (or blades) in this product may prove to be perfect for many. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with even a basic belt sheath for those of us with too much in their pockets already. If you wish to forgo the toothpick and tweezers, look at the Victorinox One-Hand Trekker German Army Multi-Tool with its distinctive Bundeswehr dark green handle. If you prefer Swiss neutrality, then there's the new standard-issue Victorinox Swiss Army Soldier Knife, which has a unique ergonomic dual-density handle, and even had the production year etched on blade shank. The latter is my next one, that's for sure.

The Victorinox One-Hand Trekker is a 5-star product, and one that looks like it will be one that this reviewer will be using for many years to come.

No rush will compare to seeing trees flash by like meteors, sensing through my body every uneven patch of snow, or the smell of wind and ice on my face. They say an Olympic luge goes 100 mph. To that I say, I went much faster. A gold medal could have been earned that day.

That's how it happened, and I survived and the sled survived. Nancy, my dad, and I drank hot chocolate with marshmallows, each telling their story, my story.

Seirus makes quality products, and this is no exception.

This balaclava is made out of the same plush fleece as the Seirus Neck-up (which I have reviewed on Amazon), which means the fabric is very soft and will not irritate your skin, and is also warm and breathable.

For winter running in the Northeast, this balaclava works great. It takes the place of three items--hat, ear warmers and neckwarmer (though sometimes I prefer to use separate items depending on the temperature). The fleece keeps me warm even in subfreezing temperatures, and in really bitter cold weather (when the wind chill gives a "real feel" of close to zero), I can easily pull the hood of a jacket over this balaclava to stay extra warm. Also, I have run with 25 MPH winds blowing into my face and a real feel of zero, and my face and ears still stay warm with this product. Of course I do pull this over my mouth and nose in bitter cold weather, and it easily stays in place even with vigorous running.

Although this fits snugly over my ears, I am still able to wear my earbuds comfortably so that I can listen to music when I run, and the snug fit keeps the earbuds from loosening up or falling out, as sometimes happens when I just wear a hat.

IMPORTANT: This product comes in three sizes, but it runs very small. I usually wear a medium hat, but had to return the small/medium and ordered the large/extra large, which to me feels just right and not large at all. Therefore, unless you have a really small head, I suggest that you order the largest size. The small/medium was painful to pull up over my nose because it pressed so tight, and generally felt uncomfortable.

Bottom line: This is a quality product that works well to keep you warm in the winter when running. I recommend it.

Update Jan. 9, 2010: I recently purchased the Seirus Ultra Clava (which I have reviewed on Amazon) for activities like skiing and snowshoeing, though you can also use it for running. It costs twice as much as this product, but is warmer because it has a windproof exterior shell. Before use, the tip of this pump must be configured for one of 2 types of bicycle tire valves, the Presta valve or the Schrader valve. The Schrader valve is used on many ordinary, everyday bicycles and it is just like the valve on an automobile tire. Like the reviewers above, I tried to assemble the pump but ended up having to call the manufacturer's customer service center to discover that parts were missing. The parts were sent and I assembled the pump as directed with customer service on the line. The pump is useless for Schrader valves. The metal collar of the pump tip is just narrow enough that it keeps it from fitting properly over the top of the valve stem and will not allow it to go deeply enough to push in the pin and allow air into the tire. As if that is not bad enough, it doesn't want to let go of the valve stem either and I nearly broke both the pump and valve getting it off. Maybe it works in Presta valves, I don't know. I guess this is because the sellers and reviewers are not knife dealers and don't know that much about knives in general. But hey, that's ok, because everybody is entitled to their opinion. When rating a knife, I don't try to compare a $10.00 knife with a $100.00 knife. This is a good knife for the money and is all metal construction with aluminum handles. This knife comes in 2 sizes, the one being sold here is the larger size. According to the importers of this knife, the blade has an urban camouflage coating with a netting pattern design.

Like many, I'm trying to transition to stainless, but darn it, this doesn't quite work.

Pros:
1. The bottle is gorgeous when new.
2. Some colors are wonderfully inexpensive at Amazon's current price (less than four dollars).

Cons:
1. I don't like drinking directly from stainless... it has a taste. (That's not this bottle in particular.)
2. So: It needs a sports cap. (They don't make a sports cap for this bottle.)
3. I would prefer a wider mouth, for easier cleaning.

Note: To preserve that pretty color, don't put it in the dishwasher. The metal and the coating are likely to expand and different rates and you will lose the coating.

After extensive research, I bought this watch for my fiance for Christmas. He is in the Army (Infantry) and was deployed to Iraq for the second time this January. I wanted to get him something that would be useful, but would also stand up to the wear and tear of the Army and the Iraq desert! This watch met everything that I was looking for, and he LOVED it. He made tons of comments about how cool it was, but how it was so tough at the same time. His favorite feature is the Auto EL, which can be easily turned off and on, which is perfect for the military. The watch is on the larger side, and I was worried that it wouldn't fit well on his small wrist, but it looks great on him and he says it is very comfortable.
Several people have complained about the small raises "nubs" on the watch. They rubbed his wrist for a day or two, but nothing unbearable, and after he got it adjusted to where he likes it, he loves that it is slightly raised off his wrist. As for those who say that the buttons are two hard to push - that is one of the features that make this watch tough so it will last! It just takes a little extra effort, that's all, and if you don't like the buttons, then I don't really think that you have any need for a watch this tough.
